HAMPTON, Virginia -- In addition to his duties as Master of Ceremony at the 2018 Hampton University Athletic Hall of Fame Ceremony, Rev. Dr. Jerome A. Barber was an award recipient."The Voice" of Hampton Pirates football and basketball was recognized in honor of his 25 years of service to Hampton University with a 25-year plaque.
A native of Washington, DC, Barber earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Hampton Institute in 1981. As a Distinguished Military Graduate, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He achieved the rank of Captain before leaving the Army in 1986.
Rev. Barber established Ark Builders, Inc., a nationwide community uplift initiative that actively involves community youth. He received his Doctor of Divinity from Eastern Theological Seminary in 2001, and in the same year received Hampton University's "2001 Twenty-year Most Outstanding Alumnus."
He has been serving as pastor of Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Temple in Hampton since 1996. In addition, Rev. Barber has been involved in mobilizing U.S. teams of pastors, medical professionals, educators and youth to minister and serve in Kenya and Brazil.
His endless energy and enthusiasm can be felt wherever he goes. Pirate fans are accustomed to hearing his patented "Move The Chains" in the fall at Armstrong Stadium and his booming voice in the winter inside the HU Convocation Center.
Hampton University fans and supporters wish to congratulate Rev. Dr. Jerome A. Barber for 25 years on the microphones and look forward to many more from "The Voice of Hampton University Athletics."
