Head Coach Jessica Kern Becomes First Female Speaker at Coaches Clinic in Sweden

Head Coach Jessica Kern Becomes First Female Speaker at Coaches Clinic in SwedenNASHVILLE --- Tennessee State University head women’s basketball coach Jessica Kern will journey to Sweden to participate in the 2018 Barton Clinic June 8-10.

Kern will serve as one of the coaches for the three-day clinic that will be held at the Solnahallen Arena in Stockholm. The Clinic is for local and international coaches of all levels. Content will feature player development, creating a competitive culture, defensive/offensive implementation and various forums to discuss a number of topics.

Kern, a native of Milwaukee, Wisc., is the first female to lecture at the renowned clinic. The Lady Tiger coach has a great deal of experience traveling abroad, as she played professional basketball overseas for seven years and also lectured in Europe. During the Barton Clinic, Kern will present ideas on how to create a competitive environment in practice.

“As collegiate coaches, the reality is, we are paid recruiters,” said Kern. “Each university tries extensively to find what sets them apart. Well here at TSU, we pride ourselves on giving our student- athletes the full experience - while doing it with joy and passion. Over the years, I have marveled at the ability many foreign teams, athletes and coaches have to been able to manifest fundamental components of the game with mental toughness & an expedited learning curve. I am absolutely honored to be the first female to present here while being alongside professionals who have performed and won at the highest level. One year ago, I vowed to TSU that I would work tirelessly to make sure our program strives for excellence daily. The knowledge I will be able to share & bring back to my staff & players will be priceless. I am anxious to grow and elated to continue to grow the TSU WBB brand!”

Kern is coming off her first season as the head coach at Tennessee State. The Lady Tigers return eight players from last year’s team including two All-Americans in Tia Wooten and Taylor Roberts.
