Eason maintains profitability of FAMU's athletic budget

TALLAHASSEE, Florida -- The job title on Dr. John Eason's business card reads Florida A&M University athletics director.

However, the reality of his position is a multi-purpose role with duties ranging from mentor to mediator.

Perhaps the most important task he performs is working as a financial manager.

Keeping the department's budget operating in the black with sustainable profit margins is his top priority. Throughout his brief tenure, Eason has preached the key to increased revenue centers on improved facilities.

"We want to grow the university. I wanted to take a look at our facilities and try to upgrade them," Eason said.

"One of the things was the football fieldhouse. In baseball, we were able to get a new scoreboard. I've spent time on all the facilities. A lot of times, you focus strictly on football. I wanted to make sure I was an athletics director that not only focused on football but all of our venues and making sure their top-notched."
