GSU Sweeps SWAC Weekly Honors

Kiprop POTWBIRMINGHAM, Alabama | Grambling State University's Hassan Chepkwony and Naomi Kiprop have been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference's runners of the week following strong performances at the Mook Invitational hosted by Louisiana State this past weekend. The duo posted top-3 results during competition.

Chepkwony, the Eldoret, Kenya native, clocked in with a time of 20:42.6 during the men's four-mile run, good for a result of third overall. The junior beat out several runners from the likes of Louisiana Tech and Northwestern State and had the best individual result of any SWAC runner in the field – Jackson State, Alcorn State and UAPB also competed at the event – by at least 22 seconds. With Chepkwony leading the way, Grambling finished third in team standings.

Kiprop, the sophomore from Eldoret, Kenya, won the women's 4K run during the La. Tech Mook Invitational, using a furious sprint down the home stretch to take the victory. Kiprop clocked in at 15:37.1, nearly 15 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Her finish aided the Lady Tigers in a third-place result for team standings.
