Jason Horn: GCAC AD of Year, named to NAIA-ADA board

NEW ORLEANS — Jason Horn, Xavier University of Louisiana's assistant vice president for student affairs / director of athletics & recreation, has been voted by his peers the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Athletic Director of the Year for 2018-19.
     
Horn also has been named to a two-year term on the NAIA Athletics Directors Association (NAIA-ADA) Board of Directors.
     
Xavier University of Louisiana AthleticsHorn, in his sixth year at XULA, won the GCAC award for the second time in three years. His department's highlights in 2018-19 included:
     •  8-of-9 teams qualified for NAIA National Championship events
     •  2 NAIA national semifinalist teams
     •  1 NAIA national runner-up team
     •  Won 6 GCAC Conference team championships
     •  14 student-athletes won a combined 24 NAIA All-America awards
     •  School-record 128 on the Sister Grace Mary Flickinger Honor Roll
     •  8 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes
     •  6 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars
     •  2 Louisiana Coaches of the Year
     
"Jason Horn is an innovative, student-centered athletics director," said XULA President Dr. Reynold Verret. "His leadership and ingenuity, along with his total commitment to growing Xavier's sport programs and creating services to support our brilliantly talented student-athletes, has positioned Xavier University as a standard-bearer in our conference and among HBCU athletic programs, as well earning him the much-deserved respect of his peers on every level."
     
Horn will be considered for the NAIA's national AD of the Year award; that winner will be announced in September.
     
The NAIA-ADA position is the latest responsibility and service/networking opportunity for Horn, who also serves as GCAC president and on the NAIA's Tennis National Selection Committee, the National Administrative Council (NAC) and the Competitive Experience Committee. Horn also serves on the board of directors of the Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA) and the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation.
     
The NAIA-ADA, established in 2014, is comprised of athletics administrators from the 251 institutions representing 21 NAIA conferences. The NAIA-ADA engages athletics directors with meaningful collaboration, forums and national recognition; empowers ADs in their professional development and leadership roles in the NAIA; and promotes NAIA ADs' collective voice on issues affecting membership and college athletics on a national scale. The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) administers NAIA-ADA.
