“We’re trying to go 1-0 every week, and then we’re trying to earn the right to compete for a conference championship,” coach Brian Hartline said Tuesday.https://t.co/mR2ZDBd1SX
USF Money-Game Economics
HERE IS THE PICTURE: Florida A&M University earned a $450,000 guarantee payout from USF for its September 9, 2023, money game in Tampa. The final score was a competitive USF 38, FAMU 24. Depending on the route, FAMU is approximately 245–285 driving miles each way from Raymond James Stadium, making bus transportation practical.
Three years later, Delaware State is receiving the same $450,000 guarantee to play USF. But the Hornets are traveling approximately 1,200 miles each way from Dover to Tampa, effectively requiring air transportation, along with airport and ground transportation for the team, coaches, staff, and equipment. Add lodging and meals, and the economics become considerably less attractive.
USF's $450,000 may be the same gross guarantee, but it is not the same deal. The number that matters to Delaware State is what remains after getting its football operation to Tampa and back.
