PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland - Sharon Brummell, one of the most successful collegiate bowling coaches ever in the sport, is retiring from coaching and with it leaving her position as Associate Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Brummell, who is in her 16th year at the University and 14th as head coach of the bowling team, will leave effective January 15, 2012.
Brummell has tenured her resignation to become the Associate Athletics Director for Business and Finance and Senior Woman Administrator at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
"I will always be a Hawk," said an emotional Brummell speaking after she informed her team of her decision. "This university has given me so much and I love it here. This was an incredibly hard decision for me to make, but they approached me about this position and I see in it a tremendous opportunity for development and growth in athletics. I had to make a decision about what was best for me and I believe this is too good to turn down."
Beyond coaching, Brummell has served as an accountant at UMES and recently been the Associate Athletic Director for Budgeting and Fiscal Operations. She has also served as the department's Senior Woman Administrator. In the latter role she has helped shape UMES' gender equity plans and been an advocate for women's athletics.
"She has been a second mother to many of our athletes, women and men" said Director of Athletics Keith Davidson. "We are sad to lose such a great coach, administrator and person, but most of all; we are going to miss our friend. She has done so much work beyond her job responsibilities to not only make our department better, but to make her co-workers better."
Brummell has also been instrumental in the community, spearheading UMES' participation in the Relay for Life events in Salisbury, Breast Cancer Awareness events, and even taking her team to local shelters advocating against domestic violence.
LOOKING BACK ON ONE HIGH POINT IN THE LIFE OF A TRUE CHAMPION, SHARON D. BRUMMELL ...
Legendary Coach and administrator Sharon D. Brummell to step down for a new position.
Beyond her tremendous involvement in the daily operation of the department, she will be most missed for her accomplishments as a bowling coach. Brummell was named the 2008 & 2010 National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA) National Coach of the Year and has claimed three national championships in her time. Her Lady Hawks won the 2008 & 2011 NCAA Women's Bowling Championship and in 2011 she coached her team to the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Collegiate Championship, becoming the first team to win both in the same year, arguably compiling the best season ever by a college bowling team.
Her titles put her in a unique situation as she is the only woman to lead her team to an NCAA Championship and the only African-American coach to win the NCAA & USBC titles. The team's NCAA wins are the only DI National Championships ever won by a historically black college or university (HBCU) women's program.
Her teams have won five Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) titles (2000, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2011) and she was the MEAC Coach of the Year five times (2000, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010).
Since 2007, when UMES was the runner-up to the NCAA Championship, Brummell has won 82 percent of her matches and has amassed almost 600 wins. She was won over 800 NCAA matches in her tenure.
Brummell currently serves on the NCAA Bowling National Committee, is NCAA Region Chair, is president of the MEAC Bowling Coaches, a board member of the USBC and belongs to numerous professional and bowling organizations.
Her legacy is demonstrated by her student-athletes as well. She has coached 20 NTCA All-America selections, one National Player of the Year, one NCAA Bowling Most Outstanding Performer, two MEAC Woman of the Year recipients, a UMES Bernstein Award winner (the highest academic award given by UMES), an NCAA Elite 88 Award recipient (the highest academic award given by the NCAA in a respective sport), and numerous All-MEAC Players of the Year and All-Conference selections.
Brummell will coach the team this weekend at the Mid-Winter Classic in Little Rock, Arkansas, it will be her last as coach of UMES bowling. The remainder of the season will be coached by Kristina Frahm, a former bowler and four-time All-America selection. Frahm, an NCAA Championship Most Outstanding Performer and part of all three of UMES' National Championships will fill role on an interim basis. Assistant Coach Doug Dukes will remain with the team in the same capacity.
"I have been truly blessed and will miss my players. I have enjoyed my time coaching each of my young ladies," said Brummell. "I have been so fortunate to have so many good women that bowled for me and they have collectively made me a better person. Kristina is certainly one of those and someone who will do a great job with our program. She knows what it takes to be successful here."
The UMES Department of Athletics will host a "going-away" party for Brummell this Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Peaky's in Princess Anne from 5 to 7 p.m. Faculty, Staff, students, alumni, friends and fans are encouraged to stop by and pass along their well wishes.

Pius X High School baseball players sign college letters of intent with MEAC Teams
Lehigh Valley, PA -- A pair of Pius X High School baseball standouts will be heading south next season. First baseman Jay Maletz and middle infielder Connor Breslin, both seniors, signed letters of intent on Thursday to continue their college careers at the Division I level.
Maletz is heading to Coppin State University in Baltimore and Breslin will play at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Md.
"I'm on the "Be Recruited" website and the coach from Coppin State (Sherman Reed) bookmarked me," Maletz said. "My father said 'why not contact him?' I started a dialogue and it led to a conference call. I went down to visit. We had a meeting, went out to lunch and by the end of the day they offered me a scholarship. It was pretty exciting."
Dylan Dando, Maletz's coach at the Lehigh Valley Baseball Academy, put in a good word for him.

Art Shell UMES Celebrity Golf Classic: Congress-Shell-nal
UMES is one of 20 colleges in the nation with the PGA-sanctioned golf management major, and the only one at a historically black institution.
WESTOVER, MD -- A little more than 100 yards away from the pin on the 16th hole at Great Hope Golf Course, team Delmarva Auto Glass had a decision to make. The group of five golfers, competing in the Art Shell UMES Celebrity Golf Classic, had to decide which of their drives they were going to play during the scramble-format tournament.
"Do you want to play this one up here or the one in the fairway?" asked one member of the team as he stood over his shot, which had landed in the light rough on top of a small hill. "It doesn't matter to me," said Jim Dent, the celebrity of the group, who captured 12 Senior PGA Tour titles between 1989 and 1998. "I can hit it anywhere."
After conferring, the group decide to play the drive that found the fairway and would go on to land a shot 5 yards from the target before sinking a birdie putt on the par-4 hole.
Art Shell, a pro football Hall of Famer and University of Maryland Eastern Shore alumnus, again hosted the tournament, which features its traditional roster of former athletes who enjoy a round of fund-raising golf. The stars were: Heisman Trophy winner Tim Brown, who like Shell, is a former Oakland Raider; gridiron greats Otis Sistrunk, Reggie Branch, Ed Simmons, UMES alumni Curtis Gentry, Earl Christy and Emerson Boozer; PGA golfer Jim Dent, James Black, who at age 21 became the first black golfer to card a first-round 67 in his PGA Tour debut in 1964 and Renee Powell, who joined the LPGA Tour in 1967 as the first female African-American golfer.
Similar conversations could be heard throughout the golf outing that benefits University of Maryland Eastern Shore student scholarships and the university's PGA golf management program. But most participants, such as Homer King of team Delmarva Auto Glass, cared less for the strategy and more for the company.

Wright helps B-CU win MEAC
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -- Matt Wright went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs, and Bethune-Cookman clinched the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular-season title with a 7-3 win over Maryland Eastern Shore on Sunday.
The Wildcats moved to 15-0 in the MEAC, 29-19 overall, and clinched the top seed for the conference tournament. UMES fell to 8-35 overall and 7-11 in the MEAC. Patrick Goelz (6-3) allowed two runs, neither earned, on six hits in seven innings. He fanned 11 and walked just one on his way to the victory.
With Late Inning Runs, Wildcats Overcome UMES to Complete Sweep
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The Wildcats battled out a pitcher’s duel through the early innings of Sunday’s finale with Maryland Eastern Shore. Beginning in the sixth, the B-CU offense picked up steam while the Wildcat defense held UMES off in the 7-3 win to sweep the Hawks and remain perfect in MEAC play, clinching the MEAC regular season crown and the number one seed for the conference tournament
Matt Wright opened up the scoring for the Wildcats in game three, as the left hander hit a high drifting solo homer beyond the right field fence to take the 1-0 lead. Brashad Johnson’s fifth inning triple to right field set up designated hitter Anthony Stokes’ groundout RBI to create a little more breathing room at 2-0, as Johnson crossed home on the play.
Much like the first games of the series, UMES played tough defense and held B-CU’s hitters without any further runs through the fifth inning, but it’s difficult to keep B-CU down for long.

North Carolina A&T will lose baseball coach after season
Coach Keith Shumate |
Shumate led the Aggies to a school-record 31 victories last season, and his 2005 team won the MEAC championship and a berth in the NCAA tournament. Shumate, now in his 15th season, has 294 victories and counting.
When Shumate took over in 1997, A&T was coming off a 4-45 season. Since then he has coached 17 All-MEAC first-teamers, 11 players who signed pro contracts, 5 major-league draft picks and 3 All-Americans.
Aggies Hit Four Home Runs, Sweep UMES
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Injuries to the North Carolina A&T pitching staff and to its everyday lineup has made the game of baseball tough for the Aggies this season.
But on Sunday it was back to the good old days. Several North Carolina A&T batters had multiple-hit afternoons, and the Aggies didn't have to use a lot of arms to work numerous innings. The result was a 14-3 and 12-5 doubleheader sweep of Maryland Eastern Shore at War Memorial Stadium.
Marquis Riley, Xavier Macklin, Luke Tendler and Dairio Little all homered on Sunday. Little had had three RBIs in the second game, while Little had two. Carvell Copeland went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. N.C. A&T put the second game away with an eight-run fifth inning.

UMES Hawks Earn Eighth Straight Bid To The NCAA Tournament
INDIANPOLIS, IN - The eight-team field competing for the 2011 National Collegiate Women's Bowling Championship was announced Wednesday by the NCAA Women's Bowling Committee and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) will make their eighth straight trip to the event.
"We are very excited," said head coach Sharon Brummell. "This is a very tough field, very strong and we have a lot of work ahead of us to get to our goal of another NCAA championship."
The championship field consists of all at-large participants, including Arkansas State, Central Missouri, Fairleigh Dickinson, Kutztown, Nebraska, Sam Houston State Vanderbilt and the Hawks.
Videographer: UMESHAWKSATHLETICS; Feature story about UMES senior bowler Kristina Frahm from her hometown.
UMES is one of three teams in the field to have made the field in all eight tournaments since the NCAA offered championship starting in 2004; the others are Nebraska and Central Missouri.
The Lady Hawks are coming off of winning the 2011 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship earlier this month in Greensboro, N.C. The last conference title for the Hawks was 2008, the same year they won the National Championship. UMES has three players who were on that squad, Maria Rodriguez (Ibague Tolima, Colombia), Kristina Frahm (Oswego, Ill.) and Martha Perez (Bogota, Colombia). That trio has piled up numerous accolades during their time at UMES, those include a combined seven All-American honors, 11 All-Conference honors and a pair of MEAC Outstanding Performer honors.
"I have mixed feelings," said Perez. "I am excited to go again, but sad that it will be my last NCAA Championship. It is win or go home and we want to go out with a win in our last NCAAs. We have been winning a lot this year, we know we can win, we just have to go out and do what we know."
Printable Bracket
Detroit Mercy and the Detroit Metro Sports Commission will play host to the championship, which will be held April 14-16 at Skore Lanes in Taylor, Mich. Tickets can be purchased by calling (313) 291-6220 before to the championship.
Fairleigh Dickinson captured the 2010 National Collegiate Women’s Bowling Championship at Brunswick Zone Carolier Lanes in North Brunswick, N.J. The Knights defeated 2009 national champion Nebraska in the final, needing all seven games in the best-of-seven matchup to edge the Cornhuskers 4-3 and claim their first title since 2006.
A tape delay broadcast of the championship finals will air on ESPN Sunday, April 17 at 2:30 p.m. ET.

UMES Claims MEAC Bowling Championship
GREENSBORO, N.C. (March 20, 2011) - As the careers draw to an end for three University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) seniors it is ending up the same as it started, with a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship.
The Lady Hawks captured the 2011 title earlier today in Greensboro, their fifth overall and the second for three All-American seniors in Kristina Frahm (Oswego, Ill.), Martha Perez (Bogota, Colombia) and Maria Rodriguez (Ibague Tolima, Colombia). UMES defeated Morgan State 4-0 to capture the crown.
The Hawks, rolling all the way through the winner's bracket made short work of the Bears, 4-0 (206-162, 161-157, 170-138, 187-134) to capture the match in straight games.
"What took us over was the fact that we were able to make our spares. I constantly drive into the young ladies that we have to make spares and it proved to be worth it today," said head coach Sharon Brummell.
Despite the solid play of the three seniors, it was a junior, Paula Vilas (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) who came up big, being named the Most Outstanding Performer of the championship.
"It feels amazing, I did not expect this award," stated Vilas, "When they called my name I was in shock, but I appreciate the honor." Vilas aided her team throughout the tournament and bowled a high of 193 against Norfolk State during the qualifying rounds.
Also claiming an award was Brummell, who was named Outstanding Coach of the championship. It was her fifth time receiving this honor.
2011 MEAC Championship Bracket
"This fifth championship was very special for me because of our three seniors (Frahm, Perez and Rodriguez). This was their last MEAC Bowling Championship. They were a part of the 2008 National Championship team and they really wanted to go out with a win and they were able to achieve that," Brummell said.
Morgan State, the sixth seed, topped second-seeded Delaware State earlier in the day in the semi-final round, 4-2. They were led in the tournament by Danielle Hale, Devin Revels and Keisheena Waldron. Hale averaged a 181 in the event while Revels and Waldron were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Rodriguez joined Vilas on the All-Tournament Team to go along with both Morgan State players and Jazmyne Hefflefinger from Delaware State.
The MEAC Bowling Championship finale will air in a tape-delayed format on Monday, March 28 at 7 p.m. on ESPNU.
Up next for UMES are the hopes for an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships April 14-16 in Taylor, Mich. A spot will be the eighth straight selection for the Hawks.

Pep band, students and alumni resurrect a UMES tradition
PRINCESS ANNE, MD -- The once popular UMES Homecoming Parade that had disappeared during the past few decades will be resurrected this Saturday featuring the campus' new pep band.

"The parade has taken on a whole new life," she said. "It's really turned into something bigger than what we thought."
At the center will be the pep band, which will turn into a marching band for the occasion.

UMES men fall to Bethune-Cookman
PRINCESS ANNE, MD -- The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team tried to make a late second-half comeback, but fell short 71-64 on Monday to Bethune-Cookman. The Hawks trailed Bethune-Cookman 38-28 at halftime. UMES outscored Bethune-Cookman 36-33 in the second half.
Tyler Hines led the Hawks with 19 points, and also grabbed six rebounds. Hillary Haley chipped in with 12 points in the loss.
Morton steps up game in UMES win
PRINCESS ANNE, MD -- Paced by guard Casey Morton matching her career high of 24 points, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore women's basketball team cruised to a 69-52 win over Bethune-Cookman in the first game of Monday's matinee doubleheader. The win was their second in a row and second straight at home.
"I'm Casey's biggest critic, so I always look at her turnovers," said UMES head coach Fred Batchelor. "I look and say she had too many turnovers in any given game, but the fact is when she puts the ball in the basket, she makes us a better team. When she can control the ball and take care of it and get us going, we go when she goes."
B-CU stays perfect in MEAC
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -- C.J. Reed and Garrius Holloman scored 15 points each as Bethune-Cookman defeated Maryland-Eastern Shore 71-64 on Monday to remain unbeaten in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Wildcats (10-8, 5-0) led by 14 points, 47-33, less than 5 minutes into the second half, but the Hawks (4-13, 1-3) didn't fold, coming within a point, 49-48, after a 15-2 run that included two 3-pointers by Dishawn Bradshaw -- his only 3-pointers in 10 attempts.
The Hawks trailed by two, 62-60 with 1:53 to play, but a layup by Reed made it 64-60, and Stanley Elliott, Javoris Bryant and Holloman each hit two free throws for Bethune-Cookman down the stretch.

Second-half surge pushes Savannah State beyond Maryland Eastern Shore
Savannah State women's basketball coach Cedric Baker admitted some things could be better, some a little worse, while summing up the Tigers' .500 season pretty accurately.
The positive shined brightly at Tiger Arena on Wednesday night. SSU received key contributions from its bench and used a solid defensive effort in the second half to pull away from Maryland Eastern Shore, 71-50.
The Tigers raised their record to 7-1 at home while evening their overall mark at 8-8. A year ago, SSU finished 9-21 overall, so .500 has a nice ring right now. "This was an important win for the program," Baker said. "The kids have bought into what we've been telling them."
UMES Announces Annual 'Take a Kid to the Game' Day
PRINCESS ANNE, Md.- The University of Maryland Eastern Shore today announced its annual NCAA® Men's and Women's Basketball Take A Kid to the Game® day will be held on Saturday, January 15 when the Hawks take on the Florida A&M Rattlers at the W.P. Hytche Athletic Center. The Lady Hawks take on the Lady Rattlers at 2 p.m. with the men's teams following at approximately 4 p.m.
Area youth ages 12 and younger are invited to experience the college game day atmosphere and action with a free ticket when accompanied by an adult with paid admission.
"We are excited to once again host a youth-focused game day at the Hytche this season," said G. Stan Bradley, Assistant Athletic Director for External Affairs. "We hope the community will embrace this event and bring children out to experience a college athletic event at the UMES campus, while cheering on the Hawks."
SAVANNAH STATE'S HOT SHOOTING SECOND HALF SINKS UMES, 71-50
SAVANNAH, Ga. - Savannah State shot 53.8 percent in the second half, breaking open a tie game at halftime on its way to a 71-50 win over the University of Maryland Eastern Shore women's basketball team at Tiger Arena Wednesday.
Ezinne Kalu scored 18 points on 7-for-9 shooting to help the Lady Tigers even their record to 8-8 while Amber Cook (Greensboro, N.C.) paced UMES with a career-high-tying 16 points and eight rebounds in its sixth consecutive defeat. Casey Morton (Mardela Springs, Md.) became the fourth player in UMES women's basketball history to eclipse the 1,000-point barrier with a 3-pointer in the first half and finished with 10 points.

Colorado Buffs Slog Through Easy Win Against Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks
BOULDER, CO - Colorado mostly went through the motions Wednesday night in dispatching outmanned Maryland Eastern Shore 92-65 at the Coors Events Center.
If there is an upside, this is it: Even in going through the motions against an inferior opponent, the motions might be getting better - a promising sign with Big 12 Conference play only 10 days away.
But first-year CU Coach Tad Boyle had trouble seeing it that way. He shouldered the blame for a lackluster start that seeped through most of the opening half until the Buffs got their heads, ah, back into their assignments.
UMES INCONSISTENT IN 92-65 LOSS AT COLORADO
BOULDER, Colo. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team showed a lot of fight but were overcome by inconsistency as they fell, 92-65, to the University of Colorado Wednesday night at the Coors Events Center.
Redshirt junior Hillary Haley (Oxon Hill, Md.) tallied 18 points in the loss on 7-of-12 shooting from the field. Haley also chipped in four rebounds and a steal on the night. Senior Kevin White (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added in 12 points while junior Dishawn Bradshaw (Baltimore, Md.) had 11 of his own. Tonight's game marks the third consecutive double-figure scoring effort by both Bradshaw and Haley.
The Hawks (3-9) were led in rebounding by junior Tyler Hines (Sicklerville, N.J.), who had seven in the contest (five defensive).

UMES Hawks signs 6'-11" developing "Big Man"
UMES Hawks Coach Frankie Allen
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball head coach Frankie Allen has announced the signing of 6-11 center Olatunji Kosile from Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson, Miss. for the 2011-12 season. Kosile, who is known by his teammates and friends as TJ, averages 3.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game through seven contests for the Wolfpack this season.
"TJ is an excellent signee and he'll give us the size and strength that we need to compete in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference," stated Allen.
"His rebounding and defensive skills are formidable which will give us added strength on our front line. There is a tremendous wealth of potential in a player with his size, strength and ability and he is a very welcome addition into our program. We're excited to work with TJ and develop him into a quality Division I player."
Kosile inks with UMES
WESSON, Ms. - The game of basketball has taken Olatunji Kosile half way around the world. The game has taken the 6-11 center away from his home in Lagos, Nigeria, to the small town of Niceville, Fla. After playing one season for Northwest Florida State, Kosile has landed in the tiny town Wesson, suiting up to play this season for the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolfpack.
On Monday, Nov. 15, Kosile signed a national letter of intent to play basketball, which will take him on the next step of his journey, to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Md.
Kosile, know by his teammates and friends as TJ, is coming off of his best game as a member of the Wolfpack. On Thursday, Nov.11, against Holmes Kosile scored 10 points, pulled down 8 rebounds, and blocked 2 shots in Co-Lin’s 68-58 win.
“The coaches from Eastern Shore view TJ as a big 6-11 ball of clay and I think that’s a great description of what he can be,” said Co-Lin Assistant Coach Cliff Furr.
Lady Jaspers Notch Fourth Straight Victory
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - On Monday night, the Manhattan College women's basketball team hit the road for the first time in three weeks looking to extend its winning streak to four straight. After Maryland Eastern Shore pulled within one in the second half, the Lady Jaspers (5-2) outscored the Lady Hawks (1-3) 16-4 over the final 7:08 to pull away for a 61-49 triumph in a tough, physical contest at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center.
"This was a very difficult game in an extremely hostile environment," Head Coach John Olenowski said. "Our girls really came through, and I'm proud of our effort."
With the score knotted at 10-10 early in the first half, Monica Roeder (Marlton, N.J.) and Toni-Ann Lawrence (Elmont, N.Y.) took over. The duo combined for all of Manhattan's points during a 16-5 run that gave the Lady Jaspers an 11-point, 26-15, advantage with 8:31 remaining before halftime. Maryland Eastern Shore responded with a pair of treys to get back within six, but another 10-4 Manhattan rally followed and the Lady Jaspers took a 36-25 lead into the locker room.

UMES Hawks will try to break through
PRINCESS ANNE -- The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team finished 8-8 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play last season, sporting its best record in close to a decade. While, in past campaigns, breaking even in the conference would be welcomed, UMES coach Frankie Allen is far from satisfied. Allen, in his third year at the helm, looks to continue with the progression of a program that has seen its go from 4-28 in 2007-08 to 7-23 in 2008-09 to 11-21 last season.
"This is an opportunity for us to have a breakthrough season," Allen said. "It was a down program when we got here, and it has made significant progress."

Frankie Allen has high hopes for his third season in Princess Anne. The UMES men's basketball coach has added six scholarship players to the Hawks' roster. Allen believes his third recruiting class at UMES -- combined with his returning players -- could vault the Hawks into the MEAC's championship conversation.

UMES Cohesion will set them apart
PRINCESS ANNE, MD -- For the past three years, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore volleyball team has been dominant in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Over that time, the Hawks have won 20 or more games each season and the MEAC North title thrice, sporting a 30-0 mark against divisional competition. During the streak, UMES has lost only one set.
Because of that success, the Hawks again have been named the preseason favorite in the division, but in order to reach the top, they will have overcome a large turnover on their roster.
"People have set expectations for us," UMES coach Don Metil said. "Our expectations are really just to get all these new girls to gel on the courts and to go into our first MEAC tournament as a very cohesive unit."

UMES Hawks Basketball Releases 2010-11 Schedule
PRINCESS ANNE, MD - Head coach Frankie Allen and his men's basketball staff at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore announced their 2010-11 schedule Tuesday afternoon as they look forward to a tough but successful campaign.
"We have presented ourselves with a great challenge in this year's schedule," said Allen. "Our non-conference contests more than prepare us for the rough and rigorous Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference season."
The Hawks open their season at home for the second consecutive year, this time hosting Conference USA's Tulane Green Wave on Friday, Nov. 12. They then travel to New York to take on Columbia on Nov. 15 before continuing on to American in Washington, D.C. on the 17th. The team returns home on Nov. 20 as they face Kean University. Northern Illinois travels to Princess Anne to matchup with the Hawks on the 24th.
UMES won't see much of the William P. Hytche Arena from the end of November until the beginning of January as they play road games in the next nine of 10 matchups. However, the Hawks do stay within the area for the next three contests as they travel to Navy in Annapolis, Md. on Nov. 27 and then open MEAC play Dec. 4 against Delaware State for the fourth straight year. UMES meets up with Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va. for the first time in two years on Dec. 9.
