FSU men and women upset CIAA rival Johnson C. Smith

FAYETTEVILLE, North Carolina -- Monday turned out to be a night of clutch moments for the Fayetteville State Broncos.

The FSU women delivered a key defensive steal and game-winning free throw with 2.54 seconds left to stun Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Southern Division leader Johnson C. Smith, 59-58, in the opening game of the evening.

The men followed that dramatic finish with a decisive burst of their own in the final five minutes at Capel Arena to knock off the Golden Bulls, 71-57, and end a seven-game losing streak.

"I can't even explain the feeling right now. I'm just overwhelmed,'' sophomore Je'Lena Robertson said moments after sinking the first of two fouls shots that provided the game-winning point in a second straight triumph for the Fayetteville State women (9-10 overall, 3-7 CIAA).
