Richmond Men's Basketball Blows Past Coppin State, 71-49

RICHMOND, Virginia  --  Sophomore Kendall Anthony led three Spiders in double figures with 18 points as the Richmond men’s basketball team defeated Coppin State Eagles, 71-49, Saturday evening at the Robins Center.

Anthony made 6-of-11 field goals and 4-of-9 three-pointers in his first start of the season, made in place of injured leading-scorer Cedrick Lindsay.

Sophomore Trey Davis matched a career high with 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while sophomore Terry Allen also scored 12 points on 5-of-6 shoointg. Allen grabbed seven rebounds and had three steals.

Sophomore Deion Taylor led Richmond with nine rebounds and sophomore Alonzo Nelson-Ododa had six points, five rebounds and four blocks, already moving into 10th on Richmond's career list with 86 blocks.

Junior Derrick Williams scored seven points and had four rebounds, while junior Wayne Sparrow scored six points and had five assists. Freshman ShawnDre' Jones scored six points, mkaing a pair of three-pointers.

Richmond (8-3) dominated play the entire contest as it shot 50 percent from the field, while holding the Eagles (4-5) to just 28.6 percent. The Spiders forced 14 turnovers that turned into 20 points, while outscoring Coppin State 34-14 in the paint.

The Spiders, who improved to 5-1 at home this season, will have another week off before returning to the Robins Center Sunday, Dec. 22 to host Ohio at 1 p.m.
