Southern overwhelms Dillard

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana  --  The Southern men’s basketball team has been short-handed much of the early season, and Saturday night was no exception.

But you couldn’t tell it as the Jaguars went after Dillard in waves and overwhelmed the Bleu Devils 107-64 in the Clark Activity Center.

Leading scorer and rebounder Calvin Godfrey didn’t play because of a sore elbow, but five of his teammates scored in double figures.

“This was the type of game that we needed,” Southern coach Roman Banks said. “We needed to get some confidence and work on some things. We’ve been working very hard on the defensive end and our rebounding, and I thought our intensity was better for longer.”

Yondarius Johnson led the Jaguars with 20 points, Malcolm Miller scored 16, Bryce Clark had 15, and Javan Mitchell and Tre Lynch 14 each.
