FAMU rallies to beat Hampton Lady Pirates 66-59

HAMPTON, Virginia -- Florida A&M overcame a seven-point deficit in the second half and snapped Hampton University's 28-game winning streak in MEAC games at the Convocation Center with 66-59 win Monday night.

Khadejra Young’s layup with 1:55 left gave FAMU (9-8, 3-1 MEAC) the lead for good at 60-58 with 1:55 remaining. The Lady Pirates had a chance to tie on their next possession, but Mikayla Sayle went 1-for-2 from the free throw line.

HU (4-12, 2-1) didn’t score the rest of the way.

Dejane’ James and K’lynn Willis led HU with 16 points each. Malia Tate-DeFreitas, the MEAC’s leading scorer, finished with a season-low eight points on 4-of-15 shooting.
