'It's all on me:' Southern quarterback Austin Howard shoulders blame for inconsistent night against ULM

MONROE, Louisiana — Southern junior quarterback Austin Howard was his own worst critic after Saturday’s 38-21 road loss to Louisiana-Monroe.

“I feel like everything was on me,” Howard said. “I made some bad throws early. I kind of killed our momentum. We just have to get back in practice and work even harder than we did last week.”



Howard completed 17 of 31 attempts for 137 yards and a touchdown. He also threw a fourth-quarter interception in the end zone, killing a drive that started at the ULM 36-yard line.

His overall numbers were mostly skewed by a poor start. He completed just four of his first 13 passes, and he was pressured on four of those attempts.

Those early attempts were also where his bad misses were — the worst coming when he overthrew tight end Dillon Beard, who was running free behind the ULM secondary.
