ASU Lovett qualifies for NCAAs in 400-meter hurdles

TAMPA, Florida -- After finishing fourth in her heat in the first round of the 400-meter hurdles to qualify on time for the quarterfinals, Alabama State's Shamaria Lovett left no doubt she was going to the NCAA Championships in June with a third place finish in her heat Friday afternoon.

The top three student-athletes from each heat in the East Preliminary, along with the next three times qualified for the NCAA Championships and Lovett finished with a new personal best time of 57.30 (57.296) seconds to finish with the 10th-fastest time to qualify as one of the 12 student-athletes to keep competing next month.

"I am very proud of Shamaria," Alabama State head track and field coach Ritchie Beenesaid. "She committed herself to advancing by doing what she needed to, and put in the work to get to Eugene."
