NAIA Track & Field Championships: Dillard Bleu Devil Shepherd Runs Fastest Wind Legal 100m of the Season

GULF SHORES, Alabama -- Darrien Shepherd wrapped up his sophomore campaign Friday with his fastest 100-meter wind legal time of the season on day two of the 2018 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.

Shepherd placed sixth in his heat and 26th overall with a time of 10.88 seconds, marking the best legal time of his career.

"That was probably his best block start of the year," head coach Derek Gay said. "He didn't make finals, but it was the best wind legal race he has had all year."

The Winnfield, Louisiana, native got his first taste of the national meet and will have two more years at Dillard.

"We are super excited to have him for two more years," Gay said. "He still has so much room for improvement."

Jovan Roaches-Lambey will be the last Bleu Devil to compete as the final of the triple jump begins Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The Los Angeles native won both the long and triple jump titles at the 2018 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in April.
