Week 10 SWAC Football Players of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – Alcorn State redshirt junior quarterback Noah Johnson, Texas Southern junior linebacker Julian Marcantel, Jackson State senior kicker Christian Jacquemin and Alcorn State junior running back De’Shawn Waller were all named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Football Players of the Week in week 10 of the season for their outstanding play.

Offensive

Noah Johnson (R-JR, QB, Tampa, Fla.)
Johnson threw for 316 yards and four touchdowns in a 54-42 shootout defeat against New Mexico State on Saturday. He connected with nine different receivers including Dayall Harris who pulled in a career-high 108 yards and a touchdown. Johnson helped the Braves out-gain the Aggies 654-529 in total yards of offense. The Braves also held a 34:37-25:23 edge in time of possession. The 42 points by Alcorn were the most against an FBS opponent since 1994.

Julian Marcantel (JR, LB, Sulphur, La.)
Marcantel made 13 tackles, registered one tackle for a loss and came up with an interception in a 30-21 defeat at Alabama State. Marcantel ranks third in the conference in total tackles with 73 and ranks sixth in the SWAC in tackles per game with 8.1 per contest. He also ranks inside the top 30 for tackles for loss with six on the season.

Christian Jacquemin (SR, K, Miami, Fla.)
Jacquemin was 2-for-2 on field goals from 18 and 20 yards out and made all four of his PAT kicks attempts in Jackson State’s 34-28 win against Prairie View A&M. The senior ranks first in the conference in accuracy as he has been good on 86.7 percent of his kicks and ranks second in the number of made field goals with 13. Jacquemin ranks sixth in the SWAC in scoring with 52 points.

De’Shawn Waller (JR, RB, Atlanta, Ga.)
Waller registered three touchdowns Saturday in a shootout against New Mexico State. He rushed for 137 yards and two scores, and also caught a 12-yard touchdown. Waller helped the Braves out-gain the Aggies 654-529 in total offense including a 338-133 edge in rushing. The Braves also held a 34:37-25:23 edge in time of possession. The 42 points by Alcorn were the most against an FBS opponent since 1994.
