NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana signed Ahmad Wilson of New Orleans and Brother Martin High School to an athletic scholarship in men's track and field/cross country Wednesday.
Wilson will compete in the LHSAA state track meet Saturday after helping Brother Martin's 3,200-meter relay team win district and regional championships this season. At district his split on that relay was 2 minutes, 4 seconds.
Other best times for Wilson are 2:07 in the open 800, 4:47 in the mile, 11:19 for two miles and 17:54 for three miles.
Wilson in cross country helped the Crusaders win a pair of district championships and earn two state-runner-up finishes.
"Ahmad was a great leader on our team and a great teammate," Brother Martin coach Drew Haro said. "I never had to ask him to push himself to be at practice. He epitomizes the best of what the cross country program is about."
Wilson, a National Honor Society member, will be a premedical or prepharmacy major at XULA.
XULA men's cross country in October won its 11th Gulf Coast Athletic Conference team championship in its last 12 attempts. In April the Gold Rush set a meet record for most points by a runner-up at the GCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
