The Black baseball prospect, the police shooting and the club he never wanted to join
His mother wanted academics to come first. So for a year he went to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, then to a junior college. By the time he got to Prairie View A&M, a historically Black college less than an hour from home, he was preparing for the pros.
