MVSU looking to rekindle offense to go with stingy defense

ITTA BENA, Mississippi  --  Mississippi Valley coach Karl Morgan is trying to keep his program's newfound momentum.

The fourth-year coach led the Delta Devils to a 5-6 record last season to gain some respect in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Mississippi Valley had a combined 1-20 record in 2010 and 2011.

The Delta Devils return several key players, including preseason All-Southwestern Athletic Conference selections like defensive lineman Robert Simpson, defensive back Kevin Eugene and receiver Julian Stafford.

MVSU had one of the league's best defenses a year ago, but must continue to improve on offense. The Delta Devils were easily the league's worst passing team a year ago and have a three-man race for the job this fall between Patrick Ivy, Carl Davis and Grant Sims.
