Winston-Salem State Rams are looking ahead, not back

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina  -- If there is any damage left from Winston-Salem State’s loss in last season’s Division II championship game, Coach Connell Maynor doesn’t show it.

He’s ready for the start of his fourth season. Players are set to report Friday, with 105 expected, and the first practice will be Monday.


One reason Maynor doesn’t feel as if his team is living in the past is turnover. The Rams lost nearly 30 players to graduation, exhausted eligibility, injuries or academic deficiencies and will have a decidedly new look.

After finishing 14-1 in 2012, WSSU will start this season with a 20-game regular-season winning streak.
