Wray breaks 400 record, qualifies for nationals in 200
Wray's previous mark was 56.57 seconds at the Louisiana Classics March 16.
Gulf Coast Athletic Conference athletes finished 1-4 in the 400 and have the NAIA's best four times of the 2019 outdoor season in this event. SUNO's Stacey Ann Williams was first in 54.37, SUNO's Kimona Smikle was second in 55.15, and Argyana Bolton was fourth in 55.55. Williams was the NAIA indoor national champion at this distance four weeks earlier.
Wray won the 200 with a NAIA B-qualifying mark of 24.81 seconds. Wray has qualified for the national meet in four events: the 200, 400, 400 relay and 1,600 relay.
XULA got second-place finishes from Alexis Milton in the women's 200 (25.15), Shane Buchanan in the men's 3,000 steeplechase (9:46.13) and Edward Angel in the men's high jump (1.93 meters/6 feet, 4 inches). Finishing fourth were Buchanan in the 1,500 (4:06.29) and Ireyon Keith in the women's long jump (5.25 meters/17 feet, 2 3/4 inches).
There was no team scoring. Other schools competing included Belhaven, Dillard, Jackson State, Lane, Louisiana College, Loyola (N.O.), Mississippi College, Mississippi Valley, South Alabama, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern Miss, Spring Hill and William Carey.
It was XULA's third meet of the outdoor season. The Gold Rush and Gold Nuggets will compete next Saturday in the McNeese Spring Time Classic at Lake Charles, La.

Gold Rush conclude trip by defeating Eagles 7-2
Gabriel Niculescu, Samir Chikhaoui, Pierre Andrieuand Chris Anders won in doubles and singles for the Gold Rush (12-6), ranked seventh in the NAIA. Anders clinched with his 6-3, 6-4 victory against Gonzalo Vega on the sixth singles court.
Niculescu defeated Gavin Beach 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles, Chikhaoui beat Alberto Cabrillo 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4, and Andrieu defeated Kevin Tsati-onla 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5.
XULA rebounded in doubles, winning all three matches after going 1-5 the previous two days. Chikhaoui and Andrieu, playing on the third court, got the first point with an 8-3 victory against Tsati-onla and Vega. Abdullah and Santiago Perez beat Cole Guy and Alejandro Oviedo 8-2 at No. 1, then Niculescu and Anders completed the sweep with an 8-4 victory against Beach and Cabrillo at No. 2.
The XULA men snapped a two-match losing streak. They lost 5-4 Friday at No. 2 Reinhardt and 5-4 Saturday at No. 13 Point.
XULA is 2-0 this season against the Eagles (4-5), a sixth-year program. TAMUT was among "others receiving votes" and in 27th place in the most recent NAIA coaches poll Tuesday. The next ranking will be announced April 9.
XULA's men and women will play William Carey at noon Saturday at XULA Tennis Center. Gold Rush seniors will be honored before the matches. XULA's women are ranked third, William Carey's women are fifth, and its men are sixth.
