Nuggets lead early in 4th before falling to Cajuns

Xavier University of Louisiana women's basketballLAFAYETTE, Louisiana — Xavier University of Louisiana's season-best four-game win streak ended Saturday when the Gold Nuggets dropped a 62-52 women's basketball decision to NCAA Division I Louisiana-Lafayette.
     
The Gold Nuggets (9-4) will play North Texas at 4 p.m. Sunday in XULA's Convocation Center. It will be XULA's fourth game this season against a DI opponent.
     

Jas Hill scored a game-high 19 points for XULA, a longtime NAIA power.
     

Kyla Duncan free throw with 9:15 remaining gave the Gold Nuggets their final lead, 47-46. 

Ty'Reona Doucet's basket at 8:56 put the Ragin' Cajuns ahead to stay, 48-47.
     

Hill scored in double figures for the fifth consecutive game. She was 4-of-4 from the line and has made 21-of-22 free throws in the last four games. Duncan finished with 11 points, reaching double figures for the first time in three games and the seventh time overall.
     

Doucet had 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Ragin' Cajuns (2-7), who played the game as an exhibition, and Skyler Goodwin scored 16. Diamond Morrison scored 10 points, and Kristen Daniels grabbed 10 rebounds.
     





The Ragin' Cajuns scored the first five points, but XULA answered with nine consecutive points to take its largest lead, 9-5. Louisiana-Lafayette led 18-15 at the end of the first quarter and 38-28 at halftime.

XULA's best quarter was the third, when it made its first six shots from the floor and outscored the Cajuns 18-8. Hill's 3-pointer with four seconds remaining tied the score at 46.
     

Louisiana-Lafayette outshot the Gold Nuggets 40.7 to 36.5 from the floor and outrebounded them 39-27. XULA was plus-4 in turnovers, committing 12 and gaining 16. Both teams made six 3-pointers, with Hill and Morrison making three apiece.
