SUNO capture National Runner-up honors at 2019 NAIA Women's Indoor Track and Field National Championships (Video Highlights); Men's Team finish 20th
The Pioneers capture their second straight and record eighth overall national title on the women’s side, totaling 83 points. Southern University - New Orleans (La.) placed second with 63 points, followed by Indiana Tech with 54. SUNO is a member of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference and was founded as a branch unit of Southern University and Agricultural & Mechanical College in Baton Rouge.
SUNO earned three women's national championships for the following events:
The Knights were able to blow pass former champion Indiana Tech in the 4x400 meter relay,with a time of 3:41.63 for first place. The team consisted of Kimona Smikle (senior), Xuxa Peart (sophomore), Kadeja Campbell (freshman) and Stacey Ann Williams (freshman). Second place Indiana Tech recorded a time of 3:48.29.
Freshman Jezelle Shaw was crowned national champion with a time of 1:32.54, in the women's 600 meter run. Senior Kimona Smikle earned fourth place with a time of 1:34.31.
Wayland Baptist junior Devin Johnson was the women's 200 meter dash champion with a time of 24.08. SUNO sophomore Kimone Hinds (24.18) and freshman Kadeja Campbell (24.21) finished in second and third to collect 14 points valuable points for the Knights final standings.

Freshman Stacey Ann Williams is women's 400 meter dash national champion with a time of 53.63. Xuxa Peart finished in third place with a time of 55.34.
Junior Sasha Newman missed winning a national championship in the 60 meter hurdles by 0.04, falling to Indiana Tech Leondra Correia (8.68) with a time of 8.72 for second place.
SUNO finished 3rd place in the women's 2018 NAIA ITF Nationals.
Indiana Tech won the NAIA Men’s Indoor Track and Field National Championship for the fifth time in the past six years. Second place Wayland Baptist was unable to defend its 2018 title. In the final standings, Indiana Tech scored 56 points, Wayland Baptist 52 and Keiser (FL) 42 points for third place.
SUNO men finished 20th in team rankings with 16 points. A total of 62 men teams competed.
The Knights impressive freshman Twayne Crooks earned the men's 400 meter dash national championship with a time of 46.57.
Acadane Campbell (junior) placed third in the men[s 600 meter dash with a time of 1:18.93 to earn all-american honors.
All-America status is awarded to the top-8 scoring finishers at the NAIA indoor and outdoor national championships. SUNO student-athletes were awarded a total of 13 All-American certificates.
