Gold Rush, Gold Nuggets defeat Racers indoors

Xavier University of Louisiana men's tennisLIMA, Ohio — Xavier University of Louisiana traveled to the Midwest to score men's and women's tennis victories Friday against Northwestern Ohio. The Gold Rush won 6-3, and the Gold Nuggets won 9-0.
     
All matches were played indoors.
     
Santiago PerezChris Anders and Gabriel Niculescuwon in doubles and singles for the Gold Rush (7-4), ranked eighth in the NAIA. UNOH is ranked 21st. The Gold Rush trailed 3-2 before winning the final four singles matches. Niculescu clinched with his 6-4, 6-3 victory against Marcos Salazar on the third court.
     
Perez, No. 3 in the Oracle ITA singles rankings, defeated No. 20 Radu Popa 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) on the first court. Perez and Anders defeated 20th-ranked Popa and Duarte Teixeira 8-5 at No. 1 doubles.
     
The third-ranked XULA women (9-3) did not drop a set. They've won seven straight dual matches and 25 of their last 29 dating to last season. Mariia BorodiiFarah BakloutiCharlene GoreauYi Chen Pao and Angelica De Vincenzis won in doubles and singles for the Gold Nuggets. Goreau clinched with her 6-1, 6-0 victory against Veronica Rydstrom at No. 2 singles.
     
Borodii, ranked second nationally in singles, defeated No. 50 Camila Puente 7-5, 6-3.
     
The UNOH men are 6-4, and the women are 3-6.
     
Both XULA teams will travel to Greentown, Ind., for indoor matches at 10:30 a.m. EDT Saturday against Indiana Wesleyan. IWU's women are ranked 11th, and the men are 24th. The Gold Rush and Gold Nuggets will then travel home and play SCAD Atlanta at 3 p.m. Monday at XULA Tennis Center.
