Gold Nuggets Jas Hill chosen third-team NAIA All-America

Xavier University of Louisiana women's basketballNEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana women's basketball standout Jas Hillreceived another honor Thursday: third-team NAIA Division I All-America.

Hill is a 5-foot-7 junior guard/forward from Mobile, Ala., and a former LeFlore High School and Tallahassee (Fla.) Community College standout. Hill averaged 14.9 points and 4.8 rebounds for the Gold Nuggets in 2018-19 and made 37 3-pointers and 115 free throws. In February Hill was named Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year.

Hill's points per game are the most by a XULA woman since Cassee Davis averaged 18.6 in 1997-98.

XULA finished 23-8, was 13-1 in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference to win the regular-season championship, ranked 24th in the final coaches poll and earned an at-large bid to the national tournament.

Seven XULA women have combined for nine first-, second- or third-team All-America awards. Before Hill, Whitney Gathright in 2015-16 — Women's Basketball Coaches Association first team, NAIA Division I third team — was the most recent honoree.

An NAIA selection committee chose the All-Americans. Senior guard Brianna King of national champion Montana Western was named Player of the Year. King received that same honor from the WBCA, whose NAIA All-America team has athletes from divisions I and II.
