Goreau chosen NAIA National Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS — The NAIA announced Wednesday that Xavier University of Louisiana's Charlene Goreau is National Player of the Week in women's tennis for April 1-7.

Goreau, a senior from Toulouse, France, was 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles (with Angela Charles-Alfred) to lead the Gold Nuggets in victories against top-10 opponents William Carey and LSU-Alexandria. In her final home match Sunday, Goreau won 6-1, 6-4 against LSUA's Miljana Milojevic, a 2018 second-team All-American.

"This is well-deserved recognition for Charlene," XULA head coach Alan Green said. "She has been our most consistent performer all season, and it is awesome see a senior with this kind of motivation to finish her college career the right way. I'm so proud of her this year."

Goreau is the fourth Gold Nugget to win National Player of the Week and the first in four seasons. The Gold Nuggets' previous honorees were Kourtney Howell in 2012, Olivia West in 2013 and Caroline Vernet in 2015.

Next for XULA's women and men will be noon matches April 18 at Mobile. The Gold Nuggets are 15-4 and ranked third in the NAIA. Goreau was No. 6 in the most recent Oracle ITA NAIA singles rankings.
