Buchanan wins steeplechase at Southern Miss Open

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Xavier University of Louisiana freshman Shane Buchananearned his seventh victory of the season when he won the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase Saturday at the Southern Miss Open track and field meet.
     

Buchanan's time was 10 minutes, 5.14 seconds. His victory margin was 20 seconds.
     

Xavier University of Louisiana men's track and fieldXULA's other top-10 finishes came from Kadeem Burton, who was fourth in the men's 800 in 1:57.53; Edward Angel, who was eighth in the men's high jump and equaled his season best with 6 feet, 6 3/4 inches; and Justyce Riggs, who placed 10th in the women's 100 in a season-best 12.33.
     
There was no team scoring. This was the sixth meet of the outdoor season for the Gold Rush and Gold Nuggets. Next will be the McNeese Last Chance meet, starting at 11 a.m. May 11 in Lake Charles, La.
