Bridges named director of recreation & club sports

Xavier University of Louisiana AthleticsNEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana Athletics & Recreation welcomes Jermaine Bridges to the staff as director of recreation & club sports.

Bridges worked his first day at XULA on Monday (Aug. 12).

"Xavier is excited to bring Jermaine Bridges to our team to lead our students, faculty and staff in developing health, fitness and recreation programs," said Jason Horn, XULA assistant vice president for student affairs / director of athletics & recreation. "Jermaine's can-do spirit and experience will be valuable as he promotes the importance of wellness to our campus in an exciting way."

Bridges, a New Orleans native and resident, spent the past nine years as director of youth development, wellness and facilities at Dryades YMCA. He is a 2010 graduate of Grambling State University — he earned a bachelor of science in leisure studies/general recreation — and he has successfully completed Y-USA's 18-month executive program.

"I'm excited to be here," Bridges said. "I am looking forward to building a great recreation program at Xavier University. One of my goals is to get the students more involved in intramurals. I also want to develop a healthier faculty and staff through our activities. We want to continue to build friendships and community and have some fun."
