Rush, Nuggets defeat ranked Tennessee Wesleyan teams

PERKINSTON, Miss. -- Xavier University of Louisiana's men and women scored victories against Tennessee Wesleyan in matchups of top-25 NAIA tennis teams Thursday evening.

The Gold Rush, ranked second, won 5-2 against the Bulldogs' 10th-ranked men. The Gold Nuggets, ranked third, won 4-0 against TWU's 23rd-ranked women.

The XULA men are 8-1, and the women are 9-1.

Santiago Perez clinched for the Gold Rush on the No. 1 singles court when he defeated Valentin Popescu 6-1, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4. Lacee Ancar clinched for the Gold Nuggets at No. 5 singles with her 7-5, 6-3 victory against Yvette Callaghan.

Both XULA teams will play Montreat at 3 p.m. Friday in Hattiesburg, Miss. The XULA men will be at home Saturday for a 9 a.m. match against NAIA No. 25 Lewis-Clark State.
