John Chaney played Wildcats basketball from 1951-1955 and was an alumnus of Bethune-Cookman College (1955). His college coaching career was at Cheyney University (1972-1982) and Temple University (1982-2006). The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer (2001) and National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Famer (2006) had a career coaching record of 741–312 (college). Chaney's Cheyney State Wolves won the 1977-78 NCAA Division II National Championship and his Temple University teams made five (5) NCAA Division I Basketball Tournament Elite Eight appearances during his career. Coach Chaney died on January 29, 2021, at the age of 89.
