The Rattlers' recruiting staff has not taken its foot off the gas since National Signing Day and has added 25 FBS 3–5⭐ transfer dawgs in rebuilding the roster. The program is looking ahead for even a better season running it back— and repeating as HBCU Division I National Champions while dominating the SWAC.
The Rattlers brought in 28 Division I transfers (17 FBS, 11 FCS) last season and won it all, improving from 9-2 (2022) to 12-1 (2023), with a win difference: +3. By comparison, SWAC East rival Jackson State signed 29 (17 FBS, 12 FCS) in 2023, and had a win difference of -5, falling from a 12-1 record (2022) to 7-4 (2023).
The Transfer Portal is no guarantee for success, and the Rattlers have been beating the odds and showing greater improvement than other portal reliant teams. Transfer in/out is the very nature of present-day college football free agency portal, and NCAA name, image and likeness (NIL) activities.
FAMU has signed five key FCS-to FCS transfers that will compete for game day action. The Rattlers are not done yet, so expect a few more signings by Fall Camp.
The 'home team' has a winning streak of 20 games at Bragg Memorial Stadium at Ken Riley Field, owning the longest FCS winning streak in the country. The jury is out on how well they will perform as a unit under Coach Colzie leadership, innovations and discipline on the gridiron. The fans do not expect any slippages in dominating the SWAC and HBCU football, as the Rattlers run the SWAC! Just ask the Incomparable Marching 100 — who runs the SWAC?
