NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's Jas Hill, who averaged a point per minute in two women's basketball victories, was voted Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week for Jan. 21-27.
Hill — a 5-foot-7 guard/forward from Mobile, Ala., and a former LeFlore High School and Tallahassee (Fla.) Community College standout — produced 44 points in 44 minutes in GCAC victories against Tougaloo and Dillard. Hill scored 27 points Saturday in a 66-54 home victory against Dillard, the defending GCAC champion, in the Crosstown Classic. Hill scored the most points by a XULA woman against Dillard since 1998.
Hill shot 52 percent from the floor for the week, made 5-of-10 3-pointers and collected seven steals and seven rebounds. Hill leads the Nuggets this season and ranks sixth in the conference with 15 points per game. She is second in the GCAC with 83 made free throws.
Hill is the Gold Nuggets' first GCAC weekly recipient this season.
XULA (17-5, 7-0) will visit NAIA No. 13 Talladega (21-3, 7-1) in a GCAC game at 3 p.m. Saturday in Talladega, Ala.

TALLADEGA, Alabama (Jan. 27, 2019) -- Fresh off a home win over Edward Waters earlier this week, the Talladega Lady Tornadoes (19-3, 5-1 GCAC) made it four victories in a row with a 91-80 triumph over Philander Smith yesterday afternoon.
This game also held major importance as it was Head Coach Kevin Herod's 100th career victory.
The Lady Tornadoes took care of business, largely in part to a 37-28 lead by halftime.
Talladega was led by huge games from Brijanee Moore and Diamond Jolly. Moore posted a team-high 20 points, and Jolly was close behind with her 15. Kendra Williams was also in double figures for the Lady Tornadoes, registering eleven points in the winning effort. Jolly also completed a double-double for the game grabbing 16 rebounds.
The win pushed the Lady Tornadoes record to 20-3, 6-1 GCAC and up next it's another home contest against Rust College on Monday, January 28th. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
