DSU signs Canadian star for softball team

DOVER -- The Delaware State softball team has signed shortstop Sherelle Sheppard, of Georgetown, Ontario. The three-year standout for the Chinguacousy Cougars, a top Canadian travel team, will begin to play for the Hornets next spring.

Sheppard help lead the Cougars to the 2006 Ontario Provincial title and a second-place finish in the national tournament. In 2005, Chinguacousy won the National Softball Association Super World Series at Peoria, Ill.

Sheppard is the second Canadian to sign with the Hornets, joining infielder Nicole Demers, of Mississauga, Ontario.
