NSU Releases 2007-08 Women’s Basketball Schedule


NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State University head women's basketball coach Tara Owens released her team's schedule for the 2007-08 season on Tuesday. The Spartans will play 27 regular-season games, including 12 in Echols Hall and four in invitational tournaments.

NSU opens the season at home on Friday, Nov. 16 against Towson. The Tigers are 2-0 against the Spartans, with both wins coming at the Towson Center.

The Spartans then travel to Richmond for the start of a home-and-home series with Virginia Union on Tuesday, Nov. 20. The following Monday (Nov. 26), they return to Echols Hall to take on Winthrop.

NSU begins conference play by hosting North Carolina A&T on Saturday, Dec. 1 before hitting the road for back-to-back tournaments. The Spartans will be one of four teams participating in the Southwest Airlines Lobo Shootout hosted by the University of New Mexico, which runs from Dec. 7-8 in Albuquerque, N.M. NSU will then face host North Florida and either Savannah State or Wofford in the UNF Holiday Classic in Jacksonville, Fla. on Dec. 18-19.

NSU returns from the holiday break to host Virginia Union on Jan. 3 and then travels to Durham, N.C. to face North Carolina Central on Jan. 9.

The Spartans resume MEAC play with home games against Coppin State (Jan. 12) and Morgan State (Jan. 14) and then travel north to play Delaware State (Jan. 19) and Maryland Eastern Shore (Jan. 21).

A contest against South Carolina State on Jan. 26 kicks off a four-game homestand for the Spartans which includes games against Winston-Salem State (Jan. 28), Hampton (Feb. 2), and Howard (Feb. 4).

Four of the Spartans' six remaining games in February will be played on the road. In between the road trips, Delaware State and Maryland Eastern Shore visit Echols Hall on the 16th and 18th of Feb., respectively.

NSU ends the regular season by playing three road games in six days. The Spartans play at Hampton on March 1, at Howard on the 3rd, and at North Carolina A&T on the 6th.

The 2008 MEAC Basketball Tournament is at the RBC Center in Raleigh, N.C., March 11-15.
