Schedule set for DSU men

Hornets to open basketball season with tournaments, nonconference play

DOVER -- Delaware State's men's basketball team will begin the 2007-08 season in two tournaments before playing seven games against upper-division, nonconference opponents.

Winners of the last three regular-season Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championships, DSU hosts the Hornet Round-Ball Classic on Nov. 9-10 at Memorial Hall.

DSU plays in two games; against Allen University and St. Paul's College. Coppin State will also participatein the event.

The Hornets then play in the 16-team NIT Season Tip-off Nov. 12-13. The invitation-only tournament pits DSU in a first-round game against Columbia University at Columbus, Ohio. The winner advances to meet the winner of Ohio State vs. Wisconsin-Green Bay in a second-round game on Nov. 13.

Ohio State was the No. 1-ranked team in the nation entering the NCAA tournament last season. The semifinals and finals of the NIT are scheduled for Nov. 21-23 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

At the conclusion of the two tournaments, DSU has scheduled seven nonconference games from the end of November through Dec. 31. Three games are against Pac-10 teams.

DSU travels to Arkansas (Nov. 24) and Georgia (Nov. 28) before games at Arizona State (Dec. 5), Southern Cal (Dec. 17) and UC-Berkeley (Dec. 20).

They finish the nonconference schedule Dec. 31 with an afternoon game at Seton Hall (2 p.m.).

The team's MEAC opener is Dec. 1 at Maryland-Eastern Shore and the league postseason tournament takes place March 5-10 at the RBC Center in Raleigh, N.C.
