BATON ROUGE, Louisiana -Nate Kilbert saw this one coming. In 11 seasons as the women’s basketball coach at Mississippi Valley State, Kilbert has fielded one aggressive, scrappy team after another. The Devilettes trap. They press. They force turnovers, slash through the lane and score.
Several times, Kilbert has come close to winning the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship, only to fall a little short. This season might represent the Devilettes’ best chance yet.
At 5:30 p.m. Monday in the F.G. Clark Activity Center, Valley (12-11, 9-3) and Southern (10-9, 9-3) meet in a showdown between two teams who are tied atop the SWAC standings.
