Lady Rattlers advance to face North Division No.1 Seed Delaware State at
7 p.m. Thursday
ORMOND BEACH, Florida (May 8) – Senior Christina Robbs singled
and later stole home in the top of first for the game’s only run in a 1-0
opening round victory for the Florida A&M University Softball team over
Norfolk State University in the 2014 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Softball
Championships at the Ormoind Beach Sports Complex here Thursday afternoon.
FAMU (21-27) advances in the winner’s bracket to face Northern Division
winner Delaware State at 7 p.m., while Norfolk State (19-25) moved into the
elimination round to face North Carolina A&T at 4:30 e p.m.
Robbs reached on a one-out single for FAMU in top of the first, then stole
second, and third. Amber Fullwood then reached on a walk, then the pair combined
on a double steal with Robbs scoring the game’s only run from third.
FAMU finished with just that one hit by Robbs of Norfolk State’s Jamie
Schulle (13-18), who struck out three and walked three while tossing the
one-hitter. Freshman Kenya Perrira (6-8) was the winning pitcher for FAMU,
scattering four hits while striking out seven against no walks.
