ORMOND BEACH, Florida (May 8) – Miesha McBride’s RBI single in the sixth inning drove in Raven Moseley with the game winning run as the FAMU Softball team edged past Delaware State, 1-0 in the quarterfinals fo the 2014 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Softball Championships Thursday night at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex.
Florida A&M (22-27) advances to Friday’s 1:00 p.m. semifinal clash against Bethune-Cookman, with the winner to earn a berth in Saturday’s championship game.
Kenya Pereira (7-8) pitched her second complete game shutout of the day,
scattering three hits, striking out on and walking one in seven innings.
Christina Robbs of FAMU led with two hits, giving her three in the two games Thursday.
Tara Tursellino (13-6) took the loss for Delaware State, despite striking out seven against two walks, getting out of several jams as FAMU left 12 runners stranded.
Northern Division winner Delaware State (33-16) falls into the elimination bracket, and will face Coppin State at 10 a.m. in one elimination game, while Hampton and Norfolk State will tangle in the other bout.
