ORLANDO, Florida -- When North Carolina A&T running backs coach Shawn Gibbs first saw then-freshman A.J. McMinn back in 2012, he said the young man was just like any other 18-year-old first starting college.

"He was a little on the immature side. I've seen A.J. grow from a maturity standpoint," Gibbs said. "I think he is starting to grow, and he relishes the opportunity to mentor some of our younger players."
McMinn, now a redshirt sophomore for the Aggies, is a 2012 Hendersonville High graduate and now the starting fullback for N.C. A&T. The Aggies open their season on Sunday in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge as they take on Alabama A&M in Orlando, Fla. The game will kick off at 11:45 a.m. and will be televised by ESPN.
