Grambling big challenge for Valley

GRAMBLING, Louisiana -- To say Mississippi Valley State is struggling this season would be an understatement.

The Delta Devils (0-7, 0-5 SWAC) have allowed an average of 51.3 points per game while only scoring 10.9. The closest loss was 28 points to Texas Southern last week.

The challenging season figures to only get tougher when Mississippi Valley State travels to face Grambling at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

However, the performance of quarterback Thurston Rubin Jr. last week appears to be a ray of light for Coach Rick Comegy’s team.

“I think Thurston is coming on, he’s going to do what needs to be done to get to those sticks and get a first down,” Comegy said. “He’s missing some blocking assignments here and there … he’s a competitor. I saw that competitive spirit in him. He’s raw right now, but one day he’s going to be somebody to be reckoned with.”
