BIRMINGHAM, Alabama | Grambling State University senior guard Jazmin Boyd earned the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Boyd, a 5-8 guard from Hattiesburg, Miss., averaged 17.5 points per game in Grambling's two contests this past week, posting sparkling shooting percentages. Boyd scored a team-best 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including a 3-of-4 line from beyond the arc, in the Lady Tigers' Nov. 20 game at Texas-Arlington.
Versus Alabama on Nov. 23, Boyd poured in another 17 points, leading the team in scoring against the Crimson Tide. She also nabbed four rebounds and dealt a pair of assists.
A recent member of Grambling's 1,000-point club, Boyd averaged 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game in addition to her scoring. She shot 62.5 percent from the floor in the pair of tilts, including a 55.6 percentage from three-point land. Boyd ranks 10th in the league in scoring (12.0), sixth in free throw shooting (76.5 percent) and fourth in three-pointers made per game (1.8).
Grambling State returns to action on Sunday, Dec. 9 in Lawrence, Kan. to take on Kansas. Tip-off at legendary Allen Fieldhouse is set for 2 p.m.
