NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana men's tennis produced runners-up in singles and doubles Saturday at its XULA Invitational.
Samir Chikhaoui of the Gold Rush, top seeded in singles, lost 9-8 (7-4) to William Carey's third-seeded Enzo Simon in the final. XULA's Santiago Perez and Pierre Andrieu, seeded second in doubles, fell 6-2 in the final to top-seeded Galileo Cabrales and Tiger Cheung of city rival Loyola.
Chikhaoui won 8-3 in the quarterfinals against Loyola's Chris Formaux and 8-4 in the semifinals against William Carey's Hugo Robuchon. Perez and Andrieu defeated Robuchon and Simon 6-2 in the semifinals.
Results
It was the final event of the fall season for the Gold Rush. Beginning in January, the XULA men and women will play dual matches and attempt to qualify again for the NAIA National Championship tournament in May. Both XULA teams were national semifinalists last season, and the Gold Rush were NAIA runner-up in 2016 and 2017.
