NEW ORLEANS — Jalyn Hodge's third-quarter 3-point shooting Tuesday rallied Xavier University of Louisiana to a 58-51 women's basketball victory against the University of the Virgin Islands.
Hodge made three treys in 95 seconds during a 10-0 run to begin the second-half and reduce the Gold Nuggets' deficit to 33-32. Another 3-pointer, by Caprice Taylor with 28 seconds remaining in the period, put XULA ahead to stay 42-40.
The Gold Nuggets (10-4) improved to 6-0 at home this season and won for the fifth time in their last six games overall. The Buccaneers (4-16) dropped their ninth in a row.
XULA trailed 16-3 late in the first quarter and 20-7 early in the second.
Jas Hill had 12 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals for XULA. Hodge had nine points and two steals. Da'Jha Virgil scored eight points, and Mikayla Bates had seven points, six rebounds and two steals.

Laura Costello had 18 points and 11 rebounds for UVI. Skyler Hatfield scored 10 points, and Asia Vetter had game-highs of nine assists and three steals.
It was the Nuggets' final game before Christmas. They'll travel to Memphis, Tenn., to play LeMoyne-Owen of NCAA Division II at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 3. The Nuggets' next home game will be their Gulf Coast Athletic Conference opener: 5:30 p.m. Jan. 7 against Tougaloo.
