Angel earns GCAC honor after another jumping victory

NEW ORLEANS — Edward Angel, Xavier University of Louisiana's All-America high jumper, has been named Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week in men's field for March 11-17 after winning that event Saturday at the Louisiana Classics meet in Lafayette, La.
     
Angel, a sophomore from Fulshear, Texas, and a graduate of Seven Lakes High School, produced a winning jump of 2.00 meters (6 feet, 6 3/4 inches). He won the event in both XULA meets this season.
     
Last season Angel finished fifth at the NAIA National Championships to become XULA's first All-American in men's track and field since 2004. He was a three-time GCAC Athlete of the Week in 2018.
     
Next for XULA will be the Southern Miss Invitational March 30 at Hattiesburg, Miss.
