LAFAYETTE, Louisiana — Freshman Shalysa Wray ran 400 meters in 56.57 seconds Saturday at the Louisiana Classics track and field meet to break a Xavier University of Louisiana women's record.
Thr previous mark at that distance was 56.63 seconds by Ariane Williams, set in 2017 at the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championships.
Wray's time qualified her for the NAIA National Championships at Gulf Shores, Ala., in May. Through two collegiate meets, Wray has qualified for nationals in three events.
Wray placed fifth in the 400 and produced one of six XULA top-10 finishes. Edward Angel won the men's high jump with a mark of 2.00 meters/6 feet, 6 3/4 inches.
There was no team scoring.
Next for XULA will be the Southern Miss Invitational March 30 at Hattiesburg, Miss.
