Rush and Nuggets defeat Warriors, both by 7-0

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's tennis teams defeated Lewis-Clark State by 7-0 scores Thursday.
     

The XULA men (11-4), ranked seventh in the NAIA, extended their win streak to five. The third-ranked Gold Nuggets (13-4) won for the 11th time in their last 12 dual matches.
     

The Gold Rush won every match but one, but it did not affect team scoring because XULA and the Warriors used NCAA Division I rules. Gabriel Niculescu and Samir Chikhaouiclinched the doubles point, rallying from a 4-3 deficit for a 6-4 victory against William Bruchard and Alexandre D'Aboville. Chikhaoui rallied in singles, too, and clinched the dual with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) victory against Luca Menezes on the third court. Chikhaoui trailed 5-2 in the second set and saved a pair of set points.
     

The XULA women won every set. Angela Charles-Alfred and Charlene Goreau clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 victory against Begona Andres and Alexandra Barry, then Angelica De Vincenzis clinched the dual on the third singles court with her 6-4, 6-2 decision against Laura Diaz.
     
LCSC's men are 3-9, and its women are 4-10. The women are ranked 23rd in the NAIA.

XULA's men will play NAIA No. 2 Reinhardt at 2 p.m. EDT Friday in Canton, Ga. The Gold Nuggets will not play again until April 6 at home against fifth-ranked William Carey.
