Rush, Nuggets steamroll GCAC opponents Rust, Tougaloo

Xavier University of Louisiana women's tennisMADISON, Mississippi — Xavier University of Louisiana. in its first tennis matches in four years against Gulf Coast Athletic Conference opponents, had no problems Saturday defeating Rust and Tougaloo at The Racquet Club at Cypress Lake.
     

The Gold Nuggets defeated Rust 9-0 and Tougaloo 7-0. The Gold Rush won 6-0 against Rust and 5-0 against Tougaloo. XULA dropped a combined two games in the four dual matches.
     

Winning three times for the XULA women were Lacee Ancar and Angelica De VincenzisFarah BakloutiAngela Charles-AlfredCharlene Goreau' and Yi Chen Pao won twice apiece. Chris Anders won three matches for the XULA men, and Pierre Andrieu and Samir Chikhaoui won twice apiece.     

The Gold Rush won for the 49 and 50th consecutive time in the regular season against a GCAC opponent. That streak began in 2004. The Gold Nuggets have won 15 straight GCAC regular-season duals and 69 of their last 70. The GCAC does not crown tennis champions because it requires a minimum of four schools to sponsor the sport. XULA, Rust and Tougaloo are the only GCAC tennis members.
     

XULA also was scheduled to play late Saturday afternoon at NCAA Division I Jackson State, but those matches were scrapped due to a threat of rain. XULA coach Alan Greensaid he hopes to reschedule.
     

Next for XULA will be a pair of Wednesday men's matches at NCAA DI Louisiana-Lafayette. First serve will be 5 p.m.
