XULA intramural team reaches state quarterfinals
NEW ORLEANS — A men's basketball team from Xavier University of Louisiana won 2-of-3 games April 11-14 in the Louisiana Collegiate Intramural Recreational Sports Association state tournament at Ruston.
XULA reached the quarterfinals after defeating Northwestern State 44-38 (Ivan Jubilee 15 points) and UL Monroe 46-40 (Tyler Nelson 13). A second Northwestern State team eliminated XULA 66-58 despite 20 points from Dayveon Minerick.
It was the first time in eight years that XULA sent a team to the tournament.
Nelson is a senior from St. Louis and a graduate of Parkway Central High School. Other team members are Langston Fulmore (junior from Newark, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep), Metin Bedizel (junior from Houston/Cypress Lakes), Lewis Wilson (freshman from Bowie, Md.), Jerry Gibson (junior from Alexandria, La./Alexandria Senior), Anthony Evans (junior from New Orleans/Chalmette), Jamal Rabb and Samuel Maxey.
