HAMMOND, La. — Xavier University of Louisiana's Angela Charles-Alfred wasn't paired Sunday with her usual prolific partner, Lailaa Bashir, but Charles-Alfred picked up two more women's doubles victories in as many attempts in Southeastern Louisiana's George E. Fourmaux Invitational tennis tournament.
Charles-Alfred and Lacee Ancar defeated West Florida's Manon Meulenburg and Lais Bicca 8-3, then beat SLU's Flory Bierma and Teodora Mitrovic 8-6. Charles-Alfred is 14-0 in doubles this season, 12-0 with Bashir, including an ITA Cup overall championship that qualified them for the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in November.
Head coach Alan Green said Bashir, a freshman, did not play because of a death in her family.
Charles-Alfred, a two-time NAIA All-American, has won her last 17 doubles matches and 24 of 25 dating to last season.
The Gold Nuggets lost all of their singles matches, three apiece, against UWF and SLU. Other schools in the event — which was rained out Friday and Saturday because of Tropical Storm Olga — were Lamar, New Orleans and Nicholls.
