Former VUU head coach AnnMarie Gilbert transition at Detroit Mercy a calamity

Detroit Mercy plans to have 14 new players for its women's basketball team next season.

UDM Director of Athletics Robert C. Vowels, Jr., J.D. is a knowledgeable, experienced, well-respected intercollegiate athletics administrator with previous senior roles at the NCAA, serving as Vice President of Membership and Student-Athlete Affairs; served as Commissioner of two intercollegiate athletic conferences at Division I (Southwestern Athletic Conference) and Division II (Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference); worked as an Associate Commissioner at the Big Ten Conference and Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance at Vanderbilt University.  Attorney Vowels has over 27+ years of higher education experience.  In other words, this is not the first difficult problem to be solved by this Duke and NCCU law school alum.

Prior to Coach Gilbert being hired, the women's basketball program had a four year record of 39-82, finishing 9th in the 10 team Horizon League at 2-16 in 2018 and 2019 seasons, respectively.  A fresh start for everyone -- players, coaches, fans and supporters of the institution is the appropriate action.   If you are a student of the Bible, Luke 9:5, Matthew 10:14, Mark 6:11 and Acts 13:51 will open your eyes on the path forward.

Collegiate athletics are a privilege, not a right!
