There are 3-sides to this SWAC attendance record and ONE important element -- Alcorn State Braves

Washington, D.C. -- A few of the Alcorn State University Braves fanbase and I were having a conversation on Twitter last evening regarding the records for Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium, home of the Jackson State University Tigers.

Yes, JSU does hold the record for the No.1 attended HBCU homecoming football game at 53,578 (2021).

This is the Deion Sanders/Coach Prime effect on the Tigers program AND HBCU football.

Coach Prime is so charismatic, the Vet would have record attendance even if the team record was 0-7.

But this story is not about JSU, but the other team - Alcorn State Braves.

ASU was a part of three of the records set for the stadium.

I posted the following last night:

Dedicated fan Reginald @RCARTER1906 sent me a tweet with factual evidence by JSU/ASU beat writer, Rick Cleveland of the Clarion Ledger

Cleveland wrote, "On Nov. 4, 1984, Alcorn State scored two touchdowns late to defeat Mississippi Valley State 42-28 before an overflow crowd of 63,808 at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium."

There you have it!  Alcorn State Braves have been a trusted SWAC partner in every record, except yesterday's JSU homecoming game.

If you haven't purchased your tickets for the Alcorn State at Jackson State game scheduled for Nov. 20, 2021, it may be too late!  Move fast or you will be talkin shudda, cudda, wudda with your friends that will be at the game.

The atmosphere will be insane with the Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite Band and the Sonic Boom of the South cranking amps.

This game should definitely be on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU and not ESPN+ as scheduled.

WHY NOT US? The SWAC has led the FCS and D-IAA in attendance for 43 YEARS!! I have no official advocacy role in this fight other than a stakeholder who pays Comcast for Internet, ESPN family of channels and ESPN+ upcharge to watch SWAC sports.  At two bills + monthly for my household, every SWAC and MEAC game should be on my TVs every time I hit the remote.

No excuse for this ESPN. Forget the Thursday, Friday Night nonsense, live stream programming, and move the SWAC to Prime Time.  Level the playing field for HBCUs.  It's overdue. Your dang eyes see exactly what we are seeing with our packed stadiums and band pageantry.

Few FCS PWIs can compete with our gameday experience.

SWAC Sports is where its at!

Reginald and Rick Cleveland got it right and my data was not 100 percent correct.

I'm appreciative to set the record straight.  Go Brave!!

Go FAMU Rattlers!!
